Ridiculous behaviour

I watched this Grey Heron pick up a large stick at one side of a small island on the reserve and after manipulating it to get it in just the right position, it walked slowly and gracefully to the other side of the island and very gently place it back in the water. After it stood proudly examining it's achievement for ten minute before walking off in another direction.

It's starting to lay the foundation sticks and twigs etc for building a dam - the purpose being to trap fish so that it can grab a meal more quickly and easily - a sort of Heron fast food diner.

I've seen immature Grey Herons (and immature Great Blue Herons) do this. I wonder if they're practicing fishing?
