Things to do during lockdown.

Lockdown has somewhat got to me just lately and I have found myself just staring out of the window watching the birds on my two feeding stations. For something to do I set the video camera up on the window ledge and let it run for an hour. I then edited the file down to a viewable length and added a bit of music which, incidentally, I purchased way back in 1978. An old 45 rpm. While recording I was lucky enough to have a visit from our local woodpecker. I enjoyed making this little video I have titled it "Interlude", do you remember them when television first started? Hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did making it.


Now remastered. Hope it works OK now. Upgraded to 4K video quality.

It certainly is a busy station and pleasing to see the frequency of return.
A great way to idle the hours away.

Thanks Barr1e. I have been lucky this year to see so many young ones being feed. The woodpecker is one of three we see quite regularly. They mainly visit my other feeder which is not so easy to video.

I( watched the VDO, lovely made, the music is wonderful. I don't get it why from around 4.11 to 11.52 there is only black screen from the 21.51. Is this just me or something else?

Thanks for letting me know this has happened. It was OK when loaded up to YouTube and It looks like the end part of the video has got moved to the start. How this can happen I do not know. I will upload it again to YouTube and see what happens. I think Barr1e viewed it before this strange happening which I can only say is down to The Host site corrupting the files. I will let you know when I have sorted it for now I will remove it from YouTube.


All sorted now. No idea why that happened. Have remastered it and seems to be OK now.

No shortage of Blue tits then. I love watching the youngsters, ( Blue tits and Great tits ) Sitting at the top of the feeder, demanding food.

Your Woody isn't too put off by the hectic activity of the other birds. They can be really funny about a busy feed station.

Just lately the feeders have been very busy. Families of birds visiting almost all day long. I am hopping to capture the longtail tits as when they arrive there are at very least 15 birds on that feeder. Biggest problem for me is the bushes have a road just behind them and the birds do get frightened off by passing traffic. Note I will be upgrading the YouTube version to 4K for improved quality ASAP.

Yesterday I had a visit from the female Greater Spotted Woodpecker (as shown in my "The Interlude" video) today I was visited by the male. I videoed some closeup shoots of my feeder and uploaded in 4K mode to YouTube. Hope you enjoy my production.

He was a bit of a big bully. But I guess if your twice or three times bigger than the others at the feeder. Why not.

It was nice to see the Coal Tit put in an appearance.

How far from your viewing point is the feeder station ?

I seldom get to close in on Woody's.

The feeder is about 10 feet from my window and I sit about 5 feet from the window, so total 15 feet. Dare not move or he is off. Also traffic behind the bushes is a problem. Luckily he is braver than some and keeps coming back. Good clean window and reasonable light help. Also Sonys gimble lens on my video camera dose a great job of smoothing my arthritic hands.
