  • King's College, Cambridge, 10 frame panorama

10 vertical frames stitched in Photoshop CS6 and adjusted in Lightroom 5. Olympus Pen E-P3, Panasonic Lumix X 12-35mm f/2.8.

By the 7th frame the rain was starting to make its presence felt!

Very impressive Ian, the bright sky has been handled very well while the buildings are still exposed correctly.
Is this down to lightroom or the camera? :-)

Ian, A nice panorama, but I don't like the way it dips down slightly in the middle. It could probably be improved by using a stitcher that offers better levelling control. I have a panorama shot in similar sunless conditions stitched with PTGui that I think looks nicer in this respect (it's nothing special otherwise):

I'd be happy to try a PTGui stitch of your images if you would be interested.

Hi John - nice to see you!

Must admit I am no expert at stitching and there are lots of minor issues with my attempt that could be fixed - for a start I didn't use a tripod and I was in a hurry because it had started to rain

If you'd like to have a go, I'd be delighted - would you like me to package together a zip file of the original RAW files (taken with an Olympus Pen E-P3, so most up to date software will read them).

I worked hard on the sky!

I masked the sky (mostly by hand using Quick Mask in PS as the auto masking didn't work very well) and processed separately from the rest of the shot - and I filled in a big hole in the sky where the sun was trying to get through but it just looked like a blown region in the sky.

Ian, I didn't use a tripod either - using one is not permitted. Please zip the files as you suggest and upload them somewhere where I can get them.

Here is John Houghton's re-stitch of my original pano that he kindly offered to do. All I have done is resized it:

And for reference, my version again:

No sagging in John's version and he has managed to preserve more of the edges. I like the colour better in mine though (but I don't think that was a high priority!)

                Thanks very much John!
