  • Colour or mono

The Underground last night - well one of the Leicester Square Tube entrances:

And here is the colour version:

ISO 400, 1/6th sec., f/5.6, Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6, Panasonic Lumix 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 Power OIS, @40mm (80mm in full frame equivalence).

    Which do you prefer?

I much prefer the colour version. To much detail is obscured by shadow in the mono.

      Re: Colour or mono

David and I discussed these at length this morning, mainly because we both liked both of them but differed on which option we preferred.

The upshot is that he prefers the mono because of the mood generated. I agreed about the mood and I also agreed this sort of image is usually best in mono. He did add that maybe you could tweak the processing a touch more to bring out more contrasts.

My own final choice, if I had to choose would be for the colour version. I lean towards the colour version partly because the people are more prominent and therefore generating the overall mood. Secondly because the colour version is more vibrant and Leicester Square is vibrant. alive and noisy and always will be in my own mind.

So there y'go. Final conclusion is that both versions are excellent, both versions generate the essence or Leicester Sq. stn both daytime and at night. So David's moody today whereas I'm vibrant, noisy and colourful.
