  • At last...

I've had to commute to High Wycombe over the past couple of months again and despite taking some sort of camera with me most days I failed miserably at getting the shot I wanted, of a red kite.

So on Monday, the penultimate day, I packed my trainers as well as full camera pack and the longest lens I've got, the 70-200mm f4 and went across to West Wycombe after work. Wished I'd asked for more directions, as I went into the wrong car park and it's a darn long way up that hill to the Dashwood Mausoleum. As it'd had been a bad day back-wise (8 tablets down, back brace and heat pad on) I thought I was mad, but knew I wouldn't be back down for a while so it had to be done. I never did quite make it to the top...

I finally found a bit of flat(ish) ground to balance on whilst I watched the kites wheeling overhead. Many shots, only about 3 keepers - 2 record shots for me, and one that I kind of like:

    Well done, Caz!

10/10 for perseverance too and I hope you're not suffering too much for your efforts back-wise.

I did for a couple of days, but ok now... it was mostly my thighs, that hill's a lot steeper than it looks there. I made it up just beyond the second lot of trees in the first shot to a very small flat spot. It was worse coming down , much more afraid of falling than when I was younger.

Have to say I prefer the much gentler rolling hills of Northamptonshire for walking nowadays!

Really like the last one with the horseys, Caz; great take on a sunset.
