  • Wildflowers of the Algarve

On a recent trip to the Algarve and in particular the Salgados Nature Reserve we were stunned by the density and variety of wildflowers in bloom at the end of February.

Quite a few images here and I'm afraid I don't know what most of them are - must get a book of flowers of Southern Europe. Most were taken with a 400mm as I was out for birds so the DoF is not always adequate - sorry.

The Salgados is under threat of tourist development, although holiday accommodation in the Algarve is only 55% occupied even in the high season - absolute madness! This link is to the Save Salgados campaign so if you have enjoyed these images I urge to click the link and sign the petition:

    Thanks for looking

A lovely set, all very nicely photographed, to cheer us up on a very snowy March day in Britain.

A photograph is more than a record of what you see - it's a window to your soul
