  • A most unlikely photo shoot

Today (well yesterday really, but I haven't gone to bed yet) it seemed the rain had really set in, with little to entice me out of the house. However, about 4.00pm it stopped and the sky brightened a little, although there was never a hope of any sun. It did prove enough to give me the proverbial boot up the backside to attempt a short walk and I even took my camera, without any expectation of using it. I never cease to be amazed at the photo opportunities that Nature presents on even the most unlikely days and so it proved once again. None of these pictures are very good and I probably won't keep them, but the very process of taking them did make me study each subject a little closer than I would without the camera and helped me appreciate my surroundings just a little more. I was home by 5.30pm and it was raining again by 6.00pm.

I was attracted by the detail and colour of this lichen.

Old and new. A stubborn leaf from last year clings to the tree whilst the tentative shoots of new life shyly make their appearance.

These looked like oak apples to me but were growing on shoots from a hedge.

A metaphor for the Economy and the road to recovery? I guess we're all in it together!

Two perspectives on a clump of snowdrops.

I would certainly keep 1 and 3. The shape of the branches, the subject and the backgrounds all contribute to their natural beauty

Thanks Pops. No1 is growing on me (pardon the pun) but I find the bokeh in No3 a little wirey and distracting.

My mother always used to say " the wheel always come round to the economy" (or whatever that stuff in the road might be). Your picci proves her point.

I also like the Lichen, though I think my overall favourites are the second picci (old and new) and the clump of Snowdrops in the last picture.

Thanks Pol, it is a bit of a mixed bag, but not too bad I think considering how the day was. It was just good to be out shooting again.

            Nice set John.

Your horse manure reminded me of when the green grocer or baker used to go up the avenue and people used to rush out with their buckets and shovels to get the droppings for their roses.

It has only just occurred to me that I think that there must have been an honour amongst thieves thing and that you only retrieved what dropped outside your house.

If you want horse manure, come to our rural village - sometimes think there are more animals (horses and sheep, mostly) than people!

I particularly liked the third shot, and the second of the snow drops

That conjours up visions of everyone watching the horses go by, hoping it will be their lucky day!
