  • Cabo de San Vicente - on a good day!

This, the South-Westernmost point of Europe, can be a wild place at the best of times and is wracked by Atlantic storms frequently in Winter. Even on a good day, when I visited, the North-west winds were gusting to 30 knots and it was difficult to stand still enough to take photographs. On a quiet day the inevitable Atlantic swell gives the 75 metre high cliffs a hard time, so dramatic shots are always a possibility.

Looking towards the Cape from the South East, fairly "sheltered" waters downwind of the point, believe it or not there were four surfers dwarfed in these breakers when the shot was taken:

A closer view of wave action on the cliffs:

The aftermath, these ledges are often the haunt of rod and line fisherman:

I thought the first shot was very warm and inviting looking and the 2nd also looked a pleasant location for a stroll but ..... seeing the waves hitting the cliffs shows what a rough and dangerous place it is. The last 2 look quite frightening.
    Enjoyed viewing these.

very nice shots it sure was a windy day your last shot is my favourite seeing the water flowing down from the cliff. I believe there is a light house along there did you get a shot? John.

I visited the lighthouse and it's museum - very interesting history. However I didn't take any shots of the lighthouse but you can just about see it in the first image, although it doesn't appear to be on the point this just from the angle that the photo was taken.

Lovely photos and I hope the fishermen have a planned escape route.
