  • Kerrang!

Yesterday I took my daughter to the O2 Acadamey in Brixton to see her favourite group, Black Veil Brides, headlining the 2013 Kerrang Tour. I researched the venue's photography policy and found that compact cameras were acceptable but not cameras which appeared to be professional, so my E-M5 was best left at home but I correctly thought I could get away with the E-P2 and 17mm f2.8. It's not really best suited to shooting at ISO 3200, as it essentially has the same sensor first used on the E-30, and the fixed focal length was a bit restrictive but hey, you just have to shoot with what you have. Consequently I didn't get any brilliant shots, but did get a few that hopefully captured the atmosphere and will at least provide a personal record of the occasion for the future. Here's a few that I took.

Oh wow, there's nowt wrong with that lot and you have some crackers imho! Not only have you captured the atmosphere but you've also captured some superb colours and details.

I dare bet your daughter's thrilled with those and, if your very lucky, she might take you to similar events again and again.

I can't see anything amiss with those and I'm sure your daughter will be thrilled with the photographic memories of the occasion.

I have nothing special more to add as Pol and Pops said everything. I just say I like the combination of the photos. They do convey the atmosphere of the performance.
I looked for a girl with black veil but could not find there tho. (sorry for my ignorance.) I just know (iirc), they performed in Tokyo two years ago on March 11th, when the big earthquake hit the city as well. It's relatively well know that the group returned the money for those who could not attend the performance because of the earthquake. I recall the band name from this episode.
Oh, is it smoke of cigarettes/cigars that is shown in the first one?

Thanks Pol and Pops. The volume didn't bother me too much, my hearing is probably impaired from the gigs I attended in my youth anyway. Not quite my first choice of music these days, but I enjoyed the experience and the spectacle.

Hi Yoshi, it sounds like the band made a great gesture in the aftermath of that terrible earthquake. I'm not sure how the band name came about but there's no veil and no girl, bride or otherwise. Plenty of black, though!

The "smoke" is probably dry ice, part of the lighting effects. Smoking is strictly banned in public buidings these days, thank goodness!

              Hi John -

Just looking at your pix has set my tinnitus off (it does annoy me so - the tinnitus that is).

How wonderful to be there - when Anne and I took our daughter to Wembley (often) it cost us a chinese meal as we were not allowed to accompany her to the gigs.

              Great set - thanks.

              Regards. Barr1e
