Re: OMD-M5 with canon 400mm F5 6L
Is that hand-held or on a tripod?

Even so - a lens that long will still jitter around on a tripod

Re: OMD-M5 with canon 400mm F5 6L
Having used this combo myself I have found that a standard tripod head is not the best option. You need to switch IS off so that makes MF more difficult and a better option is hand-held with IS on, especially if you have a little elbow support. Using a tripod is much better if you use a gimbal head with fairly free movement and then IS can often be used without any problems. In addition I still advocate using the "Keyline" Art filter as a focus peaking aid - I have Myset 1, which is set to include the filter, assigned to FN2 so I can choose it to initialise focus and then release for final composing before firing.
One of the main problems with this setup is that the lens can only be used at maximum aperture if you have a "dumb" adapter, which makes accurate MF even more likely to be a bit off. I have now ordered an adapter with a built-in diaphragm (£24) which will enable me to do stop-down MF - fairly straight forward with the EVF on the E-M5, I've used a Lensbaby Scout at a fixed aperture of f16 with no issues.
As a matter of interest I find that this lens, even allowing for the greater reach, is giving me sharper results than the ED 300mm f2.8 which I used to own.

Thanks for that advice David I used auto Iso my main problem is the movement I will try Keyline art filter and get the gimbal head. I am very pleased with the lens a real bargain from Simply electronics.
thanks to Ian I think David has the answer to the wavering about I have the 50.200 that I use most of the time with EC-14 converter regards John.
