  • Such sadness.

Observed in our local Churchyard, the memorial to a 13 year old girl just leaning up against the boundary wall - no-one knows of the whereabouts of the grave.

Even more sad is the Epitaph and the addition of "Also three other children"

Sadness is right, but (once again) sadly it was common during those times.

When I used to work in Northampton I've a shot of a stone in St Giles' churchyard listing 10 children (including 1 pair of twins) who died between December 1855 and July 1865. The father died at the age of 37, whilst his wife survived until the age of 68. It also lists a daughter of theirs who married but died at the age of 39 and it makes one wonder whether they had any other children who survived.
