Where have all the ducks gone?

Despite the very dull misty conditions I went down to a local lake to do a rough count of the Winter wildfowl. I managed to see a good few Goldeneye, a pair of Red-crested Pochard and a drake Smew when all of a sudden everything, including several hundred geese, took off and disappeared into the mist, leaving an empty scene:





The cause soon became evident:



But I did manage to get a couple of shots of nature:

The geese "know" something They have all left the water meadow in front of my house. Often when this happens we get a very cold snap and it freezes over...

I love the tree shots. I cam almost smell the musty damp odour and the fungi does look quite pretty.

Strange the different smells of damp. I can smell the scenes David has taken.

"Where have all the ducks gone?" Maybe Chwis Packham used them all as Chwistmas Quackers .......... OK, I'll get my coat!

I hope no more scenes like this - surprising how wildlife use the different seasons.

I remember visiting France once and wondering why there were hardly any ducks on the many rivers and ponds in the countryside compared to home - I comically assumed the French taste for canard was the reason
