  • Out On The Streets

I had to drive my daughter to Cambridge to meet some friends today and wait around for about six hours while they went to the cinema, followed by shopping. It was no real hardship, in fact I was looking forward to some serious street shooting by myself, but the my wife spoilt it by deciding to come along so that "we" could do some Christmas shopping. Never mind, I still managed to grab a few shots, mainly from the hip.

Shooting from the hip gained you some really excellent candids. Seems to be a lot of cash around in Cambridge.
Looks like you had a shower during your walkabout. The wet pavement adds something extra to the last 2 shots

You did a brilliant job, especially considering you were using a larger, heavier camera AND shooting from the hip!

And it wouldn't be Cambridge without a few bikes or other novel 'wheels' for transportation either so I'm pleased to see you managed to capture some of those too.

Very impressive John. It's surprising how good the 12800 ISO is on the OM-D

Thanks Pops, the rain was a mixed blessing, great for photos but not much fun to walk around in!

Hi Pol, I was using my little Olympus E-M5 for these. I can wear it around my neck all day with no discomfort, something I'm sadly no longer able to do with my E-3. It's also quite discreet and very quiet.

Hi Mike. Yes, ISO 12800 is useable, although it works better converted to B&W. I did run the pictures taken at that setting through Dfine 2.0.

Fortunately Debbie was quite some time in the shop, while I stood outside watching the tightrope fiddler. I was hoping to get that sort of reaction from a passer-by and got lucky!

Thanks Paul, I can't pretend that I wouldn't rather have been taking landscapes in the Lake District, but it was fun and street photographer is accessible almost every where you go, so plenty of opportunities to practice.

Nice set of images John. They have the atmosphere that I remember well when I lived in London during 1971. The hip position is the one that is used by fashion and studio photographers and suits very well for humans. I like the visual result. I also wish you and your family a very happy Christmas. Regards Horacio.
