  • Life goes on.....even when it rains.

After a misty start it dispersed leaving a drab overcast sky and I took a few shots which were horrid.
It then started raining and I felt like giving up.It was only the fact I was in a hide that I stayed to see if the rain would go so I could walk back so keeping the gear dry.
One plus of the rain was it went a touch lighter.
The rain did not seem to stop this Kingfisher as she managed to get a few fish around midday - how she could see them I do not know.
High iso and low speed did not help with these.....

Hi Keith. I think that the soft light really suits the subject, look at how those colours on the bird really seem to sing. You got away with a rather challenging shutter speed, too. Bet you're glad you stayed despite the weather!

Thanks John.....Me and my friend are of the belief that a good sunny day is a no no.
But it can go the other way and be too dark/dreary.
This species can be almost any colour with the variance of the light/conditions.In a short space of time it was real blue like this and then magically a greener hue.

Side issue....we are currently wondering why the whites blew out on a dull day and I thought it might be the slow speed as it magnified the available light from if the speed was a lot higher....does that make any sense....

      Thanks again.
      Keith

p.s. I just noted that on on e of these I tried to alter the colour a bit with colour balance and the perch on the 1st one looks a bit on the red side.

You have a couple of lovely shots there. The colours and detail in the first are superb. I love being able to see the feather detail on its back and the smooth bokeh sets off the bird very nicely.

impressive shots. especially the first one. I like that the relatively slower shutter shows the rain fall. Apparently it was worth staying there.

There's something about the white feathers on Common Kingfishers. They seem to blow out easily in any lighting conditions. I've got shots on Kodachrome and Fujichrome where they're blown out.

David...it's a steep learning curve as they say. Not the best time of the year to experiment - well thats my excuse...lol
