Never really sure if its deliberate with goldfinches or not but the ones on the feeder do drop seeds for those on the ground to gather up.
I am quite sure the jay's do it, I have watched them for hours (have 4 visit daily)-------------------------

I think they're picky eaters dropping seeds that aren't big enough to eat. I've noticed finches, nuthatches and woodpeckers doing the same on our sunflower seed feeders in Ontario.Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. Terry Pratchett.
