Yes Pops they come every day now I think there is more on the ground that is in the feeders. I saw a Jay this morning first time I was hoping to get a shot through the conservatory but he noticed me and that was that. thanks for looking Regards John.

Never really sure if its deliberate with goldfinches or not but the ones on the feeder do drop seeds for those on the ground to gather up.
I am quite sure the jay's do it, I have watched them for hours (have 4 visit daily)

          Re: Goldfinch feeding

I think they're picky eaters dropping seeds that aren't big enough to eat. I've noticed finches, nuthatches and woodpeckers doing the same on our sunflower seed feeders in Ontario.

Escallonia, those are some colorful goldfinches. What we call goldfinches here look like this male and female. Maybe we could do a trade off.

                  Re: Goldfinch feeding

They're only that colourful in the summer, this time of year American Goldfinches are drab yellow/greenish.
