Here's a challenge for you! In an attempt at honing my in-flight bird shots I practiced trying to photograph falling leaves. The trick in any in-flight shots is to first get get the bird(s) in the viewfinder! Practicing with a falling leaf will I hope sharpen my reflexes. So late afternoon found me down the lane, assuring passers by that there was a rare bird in a Poplar tree but firing away at an apparently blank sky. Anyhow after about 50 shots I could only come up with one keeper, heavily cropped:

So come on, there must be better leaf shots out there so lets see them. Better hurry though - they'll all be gone soon!

Not easy! I sometimes think I need to practice BIF shots to hone my skills for falling leaves!

Here's one I took a while ago. I was testing a fast lens one time and I got got lucky. The leaf was hanging onto tiny fragment of a broken web and it fell almost simultaneously as I pressed the shutter.

I was very close to the branch at the time - which made it even more lucky! I'd been aiming for a shot of Autumn leaves on an Acer branch with natural colours of the sky and other vegetation in the background.

The leaves have been off the trees for weeks in this part of Ontario. We got up to snow three mornings last week.

              Ever considered using some "Magic"

ok so it's not so skilled in terms of photographic technique, but by starting with the end in mind and a small pinch of lateral thought...

I wish I had my camera on while I was driving on Friday... I would have got the "shot of a lifetime" not just one leaf falling gently from a tree, but a whole branch almost as big as the car came down in front of me! (literally ABS engaged and I still hit it) My daughter did try to take a photo of the lorry that was that overloaded it pulled the branch down, but as it was dark we had no luck!

Wow - scary indeed! Often seen the afrermath of such incidents, especially after the hurricane in 1987, but I have never witnessed such a thing happening!

David - I will have to leaf through my shots to meet your challenge

Thank you. I can confidently say I'll never get another one like it because it really was a chance in a million shot.

I must admit I was disappointed with the print. The colours and quality of the print are excellent (a commercial print) but the very shallow dof means it's rather 2 dimensional.
