Lunch time walk yesterday

One of the wonderful things about Shetland is that you can nip down to Lerwick Harbour for a bag of gluten free fish and chips and then go and watch the tysties ( local name for black guillemots) getting their lunch.

Fly underwater...now I mean fly...they move all over the place and in the clear waters it is amazing to watch. And yes I have held my breath when they dive....they can hold theirs longer than me

Nice little snapshot (not intended negativley) of life on the water over there!

Here in Suzhou, China, the canals are so polluted that there's no visible life . I'm amazed at how few birds we see here in China. I've been told it's because they get eaten by the poorer migrant workers if they hang around too long. Urban legend maybe, but believable when you look around at the disparity between rich and poor here.
