  • Sentry Turret, Valletta Harbour - Malta 1964

This is a photograph which I took with a Leica M2 and Summicron 50mm F2.0 in 1964. It is one of the few successful digital copies I made of film images (in 1994 or thereabouts) using an old Epson scanner (which I no longer have - and - can't remember the model).

It is a little soft, but apart from that the colour is great and the exposure spot on too

What an interesting turret with the strange carvings too - I wonder if it is still there after 48 years?

        Ian,

Thanks for finding the photo of the turret on the web. Yes - it is an unusual structure but I believe there are similar ones at other places in the Mediterranean. It has survived several wars and I took that photograph a few weeks before we left Malta - in fact shortly before Malta gained its independence. The hotel which you found is of interest to us particularly as we have been thinking of taking a holiday in Malta and although there are many to choose from the Bayview looks interesting.
