  • Heron lands and poses

A walk back from the pub at lunchtime saw a kingfisher flash by and as I was not in a position to give chase Anne and I strolled back towards home.

We were treated by one of the many herons on how to preen and look perfect for the camera.

    Peek a boo

    Job done

    All taken with the Olympus E-5 + 70-300 lens - f.8 - A. mode - ev -1 etc

    Superb photo story.

Looking at the last shot I'd say he's a bit embarrassed at having been seen doing his daily grooming.

The third one - a nice comical pose! I somehow feel that herons have grim look which comes from probably their eyes. This particular shot, however, does not give me that impression. You grabbed at a good/rare opportunity!

Super wing display in 1 & 3 and 2 other typical heron poses. A good treat on your work home and all very well taken

What a great response - thanks everyone.

It is rare to be in the right place.....etc but the timing was just right for this series. Anne (Ann1e) and I had to cope with fairly bright relections from the canal, so these captures were a bonus.

            ps - one from today.

            Klaxon on a narrowboat.

lovely shots of an immensely statuesque bird. Especially like the peak-a-boo shot.

Spider is going to get a shock if that klaxon goes off
