Wollaton Hall

Wollaton Hall is an Elizabethan Mansion in Nottingham, England. With its huge deer park it is a popular attraction.
Interestingly the latest Batman film, Dark Knight Rises, was filmed here both inside (selected rooms only) and in the grounds. During filming the whole area was out of bounds to the public.

Interesting, thanks, Pops. I don't think I have been there but it reminds me a lot of Hatfield House - in Hatfield Herts.

Nice sharp shot but, if I may say so in this non critique forum, there is something slightly disturbing about the perspective. Verticals are vertical but somehow the building appears to me to be leaning out somehow.

Maybe just my eyes.

At the time of my visit photography was not allowed inside and the rooms are well policed
I did get lots of outer shots of stone carvings some of which are here.
I had noticed the lean but quite honestly it defied my attempts to rectify. By all means give it a go if you have the time.

I had a very quick play in Lightroom, this is with adjustments of barrel distortion +4 vertical +20. I think it is slightly better but I agree with you that its not an easy one. I haven't cropped the edges hence the grey areas.

Yes - the barrel distortion is the key to all this I think

Here's one I took in 2002 from a hot air balloon that took off from Wollaton Park. This was taken with an Olympus OM40 camera and scanned from the negatives.

Nice one Geoff. It gives some idea of the extent of the grounds although by no means the whole of them.

Thanks Barr1e. There are dozens of them all around the Hall. Most of the information plaques have faded with time and are virtually unreadable.

Now I have seen a picture of Hatfield House it looks nothing like Wollaton Hall!

But it did remind me of Hatfield House

Ian's linking of Wollaton and Hatfield does make sense. The two are about a generation apart, Wollaton being 1580s by Robert Smythson and Hatfield c.1610 by Robert Lyminge, but the Hatfield archives contain many architectural designs (including Smythson ones) which were collected by Robert Cecil and his father. They were clearly keeping up with current fashion.
