I was out in this, not just near shelter but in the middle of the lake in a rowing boat. The white streaks are hail - what else in August?

Since I didn't think it was a good place to be in a thunderstorm, waving a carbon fibre fly rod around and having no waterproofs I rowed to the shore. tied up and grabbed this shot on my Panasonic G1 on the way back to the car.

The G1 immediately packed up but was working again this morning and I found this one shot had been saved.

Perhaps it doesn't look much in the picture but it was nearly 20mm rain in under 30 minutes and I was as wet as if I had fallen in.

Sooner I take the plunge and invest in an Olympus OM-D the better.

You can tell how hard it is by the way the lake is peppered with the hail.

Ahh!,But the question we all want to know is........Did you catch anything!

Ouch, that looks like some storm! It was a wise move to get yourself back to shore. I gather your area really took a pounding yesterday too.

That's a nice foreground with that fresh looking vegetation.

Without rain the grass cannot grow. No grass, no food for cows. No cows, no mince and tatties. Same with beer and barley. :-)

I read that too much rain this summer has meant that the skies have been too dark for many crops and of course rain at the wrong time during harvest can be a disaster.

Yesterday I was caught out by a short but very sharp torrential shower. I was at home and could hear an unusual clattering sound coming from the back of the house and went to investigate. It was the sound of enormous rain drops on the skylight - which was open! So our kitchen table was rather wet too

Ian, you are absolutely correct, too much of the heavy stuff just flattens the crops. NOt good for the mince and tatties, beer and whisky

Pops, we never had one in Central Scotland. In fact we get enough to export it :-)
