  • Godiva Awakes

This is probably as close as I'm going to get to an Olympic related event!

I was in Northampton on Tuesday, and wondered what all the noise was about - quite disappointed that I'd left to beat the afternoon rush hour and missed the arrival of Godiva Awakes.

However, I got a much closer view today when she came through Towcester - about an hour late, and with very little fanfare so I didn't have time to get out of my office. These were all taken crouching in a bay window (behind secondary double glazing) and leaning through the bottom of the sash. The first two are from my DSLR, the last an Instagram I took with my android phone.

However, I note that she wasn't wearing the boots she'd collected in Northampton!

Just had to look it up. At 70 feet and 5 tons that is some lady
Must have taken some manouvering through the streets. Just how much pedal power did it take ?

The first shot shows her up well.

Well whad'ya expect? It's raining so she's wearing her plastic mac.

Fun series, Caz. I'm away to look up the details of the event now.

Thanks Pol - I had looked up those links, then forgot to include them. People were waiting in the street for over an hour so I didn't think my employers would be too happy with me leaving my desk for that amount of time. I was on the phone as the noise first started, so didn't catch the forerunners of Godiva - just climbed into the window in time to catch the lady herself.

The local "About My Area" chappie managed to get a lot more: http://www.flickr.com/photos/towcest...th/7691054162/ which might hopefully answer how many cyclists there were.

Towcester is a very sleepy little town, apart from the fact that it has no bypass and the A5 runs right through the centre so the pelican crossing just visible in the Instagram shot gets a LOT of use. I've been working in High Wycombe for 6-7 weeks and had forgotten just how noisy it was...
