  • Air sea rescue ?

We came upon this scene today I believe it was a real rescue and not a training session, as in one photo there is someone in tea shirt and shorts and there were a couple of police behind me.

A four-year-old boy is airlifted from a Cornish beach following concerns he may have sustained spinal injures in a fall.

Poor little chap. I hope he pulls through ok.

You have a well captured photo story there though.

Apparently there was an air sea rescue off Camber Sands this w/e too. A swimmer in difficulties and 3 others injured trying to save her. It's not a good year on the beaches what with those and the rock fall in Dorset last week.

        Hi Pol,
It says he has spinal injuries on one news report, I took about 50 shots in total, I thought it may have been an exercise as the basket appeared empty and it was the last one up he then flew directly towards Plymoyuth.

Lets hope it was 'suspected spinal injuries' and that it doesn't turn out to be as bad as they feared. Hopefully he fell 'on' the rock too rather than 'onto' them from a height.

That latest picci is very good one. I hope you're not feeling 'guilty' about taking and showing the shots either. These rescue services should be recognised for the excellent services they offer.

Here's a news report about the Camber Sands incident.
Three people and a woman they were trying to rescue from the sea in East Sussex are taken to hospital.

Actually Pol i just had that discussion with my good lady, I do feel a little guilty that I got these shots under the circumstances but and show them, but on the other hand its an advert for the Air Sea Rescue guys down here who take risks to keep us all safe.

No need to feel guilty at all Mike. Your photographs keep in mind the essential service that these guys offer in all weathers. I would be tempted to send a copy of the last one to the local newsaper to give them a bit more publicity.
The shots are excellent and moreso for being taken above the scene.

It happens, it's life, you were there and you weren't intruding - you were simply recording something unusual that you happened to witness. Your photos are in no way disrespectful or intrusive.

I'd have done the same and I'm sure plenty other people were taking shots too.

Your right Pol, I used to drive round at work and see loads. Like a bus that ended up in a tree the other day no one hurt, but I didnt have a camera in the car and not sure the boys in blue would have been happy with me just stopping on the main road

Mind you I do have a hi-vis and hard hat in the car so I could have fluked it

Excellent shots Mike. I know how you feel.

When in Majorca, I also saw a rescue by lifeguards. I did not post it as like you, I felt guilty at having captured it. However, I did send the pics to the Spanish coastguard and he was thrilled that he had been captured in action (he was only 19). I will post them tomorrow, now that you have given me courage.

Yes why not, the guys that do rescues deserve the credit. Also donr we take photographs to record an event, good or bad, happy or sad. Some of the most iconic images have been of sad events even going back to the Boar War.
Like me you were possibly capturing the event not the incident
