  • Around Lake Maggiore - part two of three

We started our second day in overcast and misty conditions. Midday saw us having a fuel stop and a very pleasing panini at the Alpine garden area as the skies cleared and the heat started to build.
Mottarone, a mountain 1.491 metres above sea level with a spectacular panoramic view of 7 lakes and the alps - an amazing sight.
Taking the Funicular are 2 stops - the first is Alpino which is the half way point; the second is Mottarone and you continue further up in a chair lift to the peak.

    Cable Car

    E-5 + 12-60 lens - flash used

    Another passes by

    E-5 + 12-60 lens - using live view

Three Islands As we start the ascent you can see Madre in the background, Bella to the right and my favourite Pescatori to the left. (I have removed the cables in this particular pic.)

Speckled Wood On our return we stopped off midway down to visit the Alpine Garden. Pleased this one stopped long enough to photograph. We also saw several other species Anne and I have not seen before.
    E-5 + 50mm lens

Funicular Station - half way in need of grassing or paving and a paint job on the rusting panels. Even the chair lift area needed refreshing.

    Part three

I shall close with a final flurry of pix, from a holiday we shall remember for many years. There is so much to visit and enjoy each day of your break. My favourite island must be Pescatori with its streets vendors and the many places to eat and enjoy ice cream. Pescatori has a cobbled vein (narrow street/path) that runs through the centre of this small strip of land with shops, restaurants with one in particular - good food at a reasonable price shown in a pic below.

One of the many landing stages at Stresa

    Boats at rest

    Restaurant with a view

Circle of light view from the restaurant above.

and finally a pic of the true Italian dish...

All taken with the XZ-1 apart from the second one - E-5 + 12-60 lens.

I hope you have enjoyed me showing a little part of our Italian adventure.

    Regards. Barr1e

A stunning set of photographs which will always bring back those pleasant memories of a super holiday.
The views of 2 and 3 are magnificent and I do like your framing of the 'Circle of Light' shot.
