    Re: Victoria plum blossom

Very nice and the background is nicely out of focus to make them stand out John.

I know it is not in critique John but I have to say for a ISO 200 shot there is lot of noise/artifacting in the OOF background probably from sharpening.

I see you processed it in LR4, you do know you can mask the background in the detail module or alternatively/as well use the adjustment brush to selectively brush the noise out and/or selectively brush sharpness in?
    Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

John why don't you resize for the web in LR4 and then export it choosing sharpen for web, this way LR adds the correct amount of sharpening for the chosen size.
        Regards Paul.

Hope you get a good crop. In my opinion Victoria are the finest plums in the world.

Hi Pops had a good crop last year, the only thing I don't want is a frost. John.

1-In Library mode highlight the thumbnails you wish to resize.

2-Click on the Export button which will bring up the export dialogue box.

3- Set the folder you wish to export the resized images to in my case it is a folder called Web

4- Pretty well follow my setting here and adjust them to your own preference.

When done click the add box and save it as a preset called Web so you do not have to keep setting it up.

All that remains then is to click the export button and let LR do it's work.

Shout if you need any more help John.

                  Regards Paul.

Done that Paul you are very helpful guy thanks a lot. I have kept to my original file to save,, looking at your dialogue box I noticed that you set your resolution at 72 pixels is that enough for picture quality?
                    best regards John.

72 pixels is ok for viewing on the internet but you'd need to save at maybe 200-200 pixel resolution for a decent print.

jpegs are only viewed at 72pixels on the web anyway - so it's an ideal resolution for 'saving for web' as it keeps the file size down. It also means anyone who might nick your picture will only be 'stealing' a low resolution file.

Glad to be of help John.

And yes Pol explained it well, it pays to set up different export presets.

In my screen grab the output one is set up for prints to be sent to the online printers.

The screen one is for images scaled to be viewed on my monitor and TV screen (small size files) they all go through this process as I like to browse them with another application as LR is not the best at just browsing images quickly in full screen mode.
                          Regards Paul.

My setting is slightly different to Paul's for exporting - I just set 800 pixels for the longest side and limit JPEG size to 230K.
