Re: You woke me me for what?
Actually the kittens are very good girls - most of the time. They are very different to our original two, who became rather indifferent to each other quite quickly and weren't nearly as active and playful. I think because we're at home a lot more and with the children they get much more attention and are left alone less than the others did 18 years ago.
They are now getting short passes into the garden when we are there and they are getting to know the chickens - who won't stand for any nonsense! Last Saturday we added some more hens to the run and we have 5 now. I'm just about to venture to the run to see if they have worked out how to put themselves to bed yet!

One of the newbies put herself to bed in the coup, the others still need a map!

Very cute - and well captured too.. I have all kinds of problems getting the lighting right for my black cat, Bonnie - Clyde, who is ginger, is dead simple.carolannphotos.smugmug.com / webleedmusicmedia.com

Re: You woke me me for what?
Yes, or previous cats were a tortoiseshell and a black and I had exactly the same experience as you! The new ones are very challenging to photograph as they are both basically black, although Cindy is more of a brownly black and has very fluffy fur.
This shot was taken using avaialble light - the chair they were on was actually pushed against our kitchen/dining table so they were underneath. But the patio doors are just a couple of feet to the left. Luckily the light was not direct so no hard shadows. I had to use ISO 800 with the lens at f/4.8 (maximum aperture for this lens at 75mm (150mm equivalent) and even then the shutter speed was still only 1/25th. I shot a burst of frames and this was the sharpest. The walls are also yellow, which makes the white balance quite challenging. There was a blue sheen on their fur which I adjusted away from, and the shadows needed some lifting and finally some sharpening.

Haha! Graham, you sound a bit eggsasperated about our choice! I could say that we are eggsperimenting, but that wouldn't be very eggsact. While it has to be said that keeping eggs-battery hens is eggceptiontionally fun, the number of those oval brown things that are nice for breakfast, is not eggstremely important to us
