  • A few more from the canal walk

More shots taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 processed from camera JPEGs in Lighroom 4. All hand held.

    Lara poses in the late evening sunshine. ISO 200, f/6.3, 1/125th, 26mm (52mm equiv.) m.Zuiko 12-50 f/3.5-6.3 ED

    The inevitable swan. ISO 800, f/6.3, 1/1250th, 132mm (264mm equiv.) m.Zuiko 75-300 f/4.8-6.7 ED

A Moorhen that thinks it's invisible. It was starting to get dark and this is less than half the original frame. ISO 3200, f/6.7, 1/250th, 300mm (600mm equiv.) m.Zuiko 75-300 f/4.8-6.7 ED

    A closer view of the reskinned Kodak building - really getting dark now. ISO 1250, f/6.3, 1/30th, 12mm (24mm equiv.) m.Zuiko 12-50 f/3.5-6.3 ED

Finally, the new bridge from the Kodak building complex and to the right the infamous Hemel Magic Roundabout. The photo is deceptively bright - it's actually twilight. ISO 1250, f/6.3, 1/15th, 12mm (24mm equiv.) m.Zuiko 12-50 f/3.5-6.3 ED

The 12-50 lens handled the shots very well in my opinion I thought the swan was excellent. I would like to know your views regarding the picture quality also the handling of the EM5 John.

The more I use the 12-50 the more I am warming to it. As long as you regard this as a kit lens with some additional features (macro mode, function button, and (optional) power zoom which is mainly useful for video), the lens makes sense. It has been rather unfairly compared with the razor sharp m.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8, so its reputation is not stellar, but it's definitely a much more versatile lens.

I didn't have an HLD-6 grip fitted. The E-M5 is incredibly small and light - even with an HLD-6. In general the controls are good and the screen is excellent. The EVF is also very good. The rear adjustment wheel is very positive but the front one could probably do with a stronger detent and it's a bit sharp in profile and is a little uncomfortable if your finger is at the wrong angle. When I have had the HLD-6 I have found it is very easy to press or half press the portrait mode release on the grip which means accidental shots or the controls you want to operate being unresponsive, but you can lock out the grip's controls using a switch, which I would now do and recommend.

Re: A few more from the canal walk

I'm in trouble this end after showing these pics and more details of the camera (and price) to David. I like that screen on the back. I like the looks of the camera too.

Seriously nice stuff, though I'm not likely to ever get one but I can look, can't I.
