  • DPNow Mini Meet-Up...

Today myself, Stephen and Andrew (Thatcher) met up in Fleetwood with a view to visiting the infamous Wyre shipwrecks and getting some shots. Stephen and I have been there a few times, but it was Andrew's first visit and predictably..............it rained...

Anyway, we sat in the car at 8am and waited for the darkness to subside before venturing out and attempting to get some decent shots. I was initially slightly concerned by Andrew's approach to photography - he actually uses his tripod as a means to "steady his camera during exposures"Members meet gallery - it's called Fylde Coast Visit (and we're continuing to upload them over the next few days), and we'd be really pleased if you'd all take a look and let us know what you think. If anyone wants to link one of the pictures (as you do when posting your own for critique), to the forums for discussion or comment, please feel free.

Who knows where the next mini-meet will take place? Or indeed if there'll ever be another one...

    I like it!

At least you didn't get arrested

I probably wouldn't have remembered to bring a tripod - I have three; a Manfrotto that is too heavy to take anywhere (but great for testing cameras in front of my test charts), and two cheap ones, the latest of which is rather flimsy!

Will view your pix with interest!

      Tim,

I checked all photos posted on Stephen's Gallery.
It looks that all of you had much fun and came back with some very nice photos.
I liked all photos, but as usual all of us have some favorites. I picked one favorite from each of you and here they are:

      In posted order:
      Blackpool Pier...by Andrew
Surfs Up...by Stephen (though this is the only photo I saw posted from Stephen, would like to see more from him too)
Last Shot of the Day...by you

Very good job by all of you.

      Regards

      George

A warm cell, some hot tea and shelter from 60-foot waves..? Being arrested would've been a blessing, Ian

Well Stephen, Andrew and myself all have decent Manfrotto tripods (I actually bought a Neotec version with a squeeze-grip head recently), but Stephen genuinely left his in the boot and I used mine to mark out Base-Camp and to hang my rucksack on. Andrew's novel approach of mounting his camera on his tripod therefore didn't go unnoticed, but apart from that he behaved himself impeccably....

...which is probably why we didn't get arrested

I guess that Blackpool knew you 3 were visiting .....hence all the 'Keep Out' signs

Absolutely spot on Pops, its a devil though when you visit the seaside and you can't have a walk on the Pier

Fantastic selection of shots, looks like y'all had a very productive day despite the weather. I thought the weather was bad here but I realise now it's tame compared to the wild, wet and windy Blackpool.

I admit to having a bit of a giggle at this one. Well it was a long, loud cackle actually - sorry chaps, but thanks Andrew.

Actually I think you were quite lucky with the bad weather seeing the excellent selection of shots. If I was asked to choose a favourite so far it would have to be this one.
Its got a sort of timeless feel to it; highlights being the lovely sweep of the wet tram tracks, a few birds and a few idiots getting saturated. The overhead cables also add very much to the overall.
I think the overall standard of all the shots is brilliant.

This one's very striking. At first glance I thought he was riding through the start of a blizzard.
