  • I could say bah humbug!

The weather was grey today, however it kept us cool as we covered much ground - some heavy in places due to the recent rains.
All pix taken with the E-5 + 70-300 lens.

Kingfisher taken at 50mm. She hid in amongst the branches and twigs whilst digesting. She was sitting in this spot for some twenty minutes before regurgitating a large fish. Obviously it wouldn't go down.

Three pix heavily cropped - the average focal length was approx 230mm

Swan/Cygnet in flight (almost overhead) pity the day was so dull, having said that it might have helped of course. I think this was one of two cygnets we saw earlier feeding from the canal bottom. Added a little light in Elements.

    Fisherman's friend
James Dean who was fishing along the canal told us his stove had prepared many meals over several years - we were asked to share but declined - a generous gesture.

You have some good pictures of the Kingfisher. You should be able to get some good prints from those, even though they may be crops. You're lucky to be seeing it regularly in a location which seems to be generally accessible.

As for those beans and fat, tasty looking sausages - they made me feel hungry.

Sounds like the kingfisher bit off more than it could chew
Lovely gesture to get the invite to share the meal. Tasty as it looks it is maybe a bit much for one person.

Lovely kingfisher pictures Barrie. I would love the opportunity to take images of such colourful birds.

          Hi Pol -

We are fortunate with the weather being on our side this winter so far - last year we lost a couple due to the canal freezing over or they flew off to warmer climes to search for their food source.
As for the sausages, they did look good amongst the beans.

          Hi Pops -

Yes, it was on the large size. The pic is not pleasant to look at - pleased Ann1e got it though.
I would have eaten the beans - mmm, yummy.

I very rarely buy sausages as there's usually too much rusk and other rubbish in them rather than lots of meat.

However, your picci set me off craving a decent sausage so I grabbed some traditional chipolatas this morning (85% pork, no nasty additives or other grot) and have just finished a delicious hot sausage sarnie.

So hats off to Barrie and James Dean.

Lovely to see the kingfisher, Barr1e! And that young swan shot is one to be proud of.

It's lunch time and that shot of the bangers and beans has just reminded me!
