  • Low key

    Hi all,
I have posted this here as the original image was/is not mine but I believe it is a full color copy right free image that was issued with a video/magazine lesson some time ago. I do not usually post images other than my own, but as a boredom breaker, and for practice, I have coverted the image to mono and edited it to produce this final result. your views and comments as always are most welcome.

    Hi Tinka,

Based on which aspect would you like us to comment?
Based on the image as a captured portrait or based on the conversion of the image to mono you did?

      Hi George,
Thanks for looking, obviously not as a captured portrait as i did not capture it, but as an final image as a whole. its strengths and weaknesses as a final portrait.

        OK, here you go:

I would personally like a little more sharpness applied, to improve hair texture and possible some additional skin detail could be brought out by some moderate sharpening.
Maybe some slight additional work on the highlighted part on top of the nose could improve that intense light dot in the down part of the nose, which I think it distracts a little (doesn't look so good).
I cannot offer any comment in terms of contrast since I don't know how was the original color image. As it is though, it looks good under that shadow.

        Regards

          Hi George,
Many thanks for looking and your comments, which I have taken on board, These comments and sugestions are things that I consider when working on my own images. I don't generally post my practice images but as they are usually exactly that, images to try things out on.
          Many thanks.

I think you'll need to post the original Photo for us to fully see what you have done.

            Cheers Andrew.

Help....all I see is a small box with a red cross indicating that the photograph isn't there.

                    Hi Pops, an all,
Here it is, as I said before the original is not my image this is a converted color image, the original is similar, all I have done is to convert to mono with selective coloring of the eye and elimination of the neck and shoulders, plus a bit of juditial burning and dodging to try to produce an image similar to a friend of mines wifes photograph which was produced in the traditional darkroom some years ago by my friend. It is purely a practice image in order to try out different procedures, I really only wanted opinions of the image as a stand alone portrait end result. (if that makes sense).

                      Re: Low key

Quite honestly I am not keen on this at all.
The skin appears blotchy, the shiny nose is a distraction and I would like to have seen all of the lips in more detail but without that shiny ridge just above the top one.

I have to agree Pops. I think that you and I are showing our age.

                          Re: Low key

I like it and I like the hardness of the skin but I think it is ruined by the nose shadow.
