Another from the archive - taken on 24th October 2003 on the last day the BA Concorde fleet flew. I took the day off and staked out the end of the runway at Heathrow along with hundreds of others as the planes did their last celebratory flights.

    Re: Concorde

This is a beautiful aircraft and should still be flying. We used to get a least one "sonic bang" a day here in Guernsey when as she flew over the channel she decelerated before landing in Paris.
People will argue about its safety record after that fire on take off, but I still think the plane never reached its potential. Its a shame that at least one wasnt kept for flypasts etc. Just my opinion

Entirely agree. BA couldn't see the value in its exclusivity and marketing value even after revamping the fleet after the Paris crash.

I used to be a huge fan of BA and would prefer to fly with them above any other. But now they are a very average airline and I haven't booked a flight with them in many years.

The latest TV ads from BA reminding us of their so-called heritage just makes me cringe. It reminds me of when they were a great organisation, which they aren't any more.

There are some rather large models of Concorde in the biggest toy/model shop at Snetterton. You can get lost (well almost) in there.

Anne and I visit regularly when travelling to Norfolk. They have a good tearoom and clean loos.

Yes. A superb technological achievement indeed, and beautiful, but a commercial disaster. Too expensive to operate, and very limited in the routes which it could operate on mainly because of the noise problem. I was lucky enough to fly on her twice and didn't think twice about the noise impact until, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the sonic bang hit us! People tend to think that the noise diminishes with increasing altitude, but it doesn't, it really shocked my wife and me en-route Dubai to Sri Lanka. I imagined all the sleeping folk on the Laccadives that it woke up.
