  • Who remembers PhotoCD?

This was in the Arizona/Utah desert on our way from Phoenix to Las Vegas and on to San Francisco, taking Route 66 along the way.

Taken in November 1994 using a Canon EOS-100 film SLR and then digitised to Kodak PhotoCD the following month. We were parked by the roadside and I saw these dogs in the rear view mirror bounding towards us. I pointed the camera at the door mirror and managed to get this rather surreal shot.

Photoshop CS5 won't natively read PCD files so I had to install Irfanview to convert the files to TIFF and then import into Lightroom.

Yes, this is me (note no grey hair!) when I toured the West in Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California with Julia back in November 1994. Shot with a Canon EOS-100 film SLR and digitised to PhotoCD the following month.

The first is a super quick off the mark shot. I do wonder though what on earth 2 dogs were doing running around out there.
The backdrop on the 2nd is just breathtaking. I thought it was hot out there! the sun is obviously out and there you are in a sweater and coat.

I sem to remember having used the Kodak P CD in the past. Haven't got any of the discs now but I feel sure I tried it a couple of times.

Ian, I've got the Photo CD plug in for photoshop that allows you to open PCD files directly into Photoshop and choose resolution etc. It used to come with Photoshop several editions ago and I have simply copied the plug in every time I have upgraded. It justs goes into Plug-ins/file formats folder.

I can email it to you if you want it.

        Regards,

        Geoff.

I think it was below-zero there - you can see the ice on the ground. It's very high up. I think that Bryce Canyon or Canyon Lands - not sure.

Thanks Geoff - I should have the plug-in here somewhere but Irfanview did the job and I'll probably not need it again for a long time
