not posted any for a while, so here's one from this morning.

it's a photo of something called a coronal mass ejection - the things that cause communications dropouts / northern lights when directed at the earth.

the blue dot is the earth at the same scale as the solar image. the CME was a bit on the large side. lasted about 90 mins.

i was very fortunate to capture this as, on checking the capture times of the images, it lasted less than 1 hr. add in 30 mins of cloud during the first part of that hour, and it was very much right place right time.

another one from last month. a big looping prominence. again, the blue dot represents the earth at the same scale. don't let the fact that you can get 5 earths inside the loop impress you......
