Its a trade wind that blows in from the Sahara with the attendant sand and dust, obviously blowing south as it reaches us in Nigeria. Starts end of November so it is right on time. Lasts about a month and plays absolute havoc with my personnel logistics because of helicopter and fixed wing cancellations.

I didn't know what it was either until I googled it
Resembles fog or smog. I certainly wouldn't like to be exposed to it. I would imagine that the dust finds it was everwhere.

Bloody awful Pops. To be honest worst thing is getting up in the morning and feeling your nose and throat blocked. Thankfully as I said, it only lasts about a month.

            "only lasts a month"
I sense a real danger of actually suffocating in your sleep and goodness knows how you keep your food dust free.
It would drive me bonkers after a day.

Wish it was just MY food I had to worry about Pops. I have 7,500 people eating 3 meals a day that I have to worry about

They're all very dramatic and memorable pictures, despite the conditions. It's difficult to choose a favourite but I think maybe the first one is the one I like best.

Stay safe. I suppose maybe you have a medical centre on the site. Hopefully you're supplied with filter face masks or whatever if necessary?

Thanks Pol. My office is about 20 metres from the medical centre :-). The doctor is actually Italian and him and I are now the two longest serving on site, so a good friend as well. The dust is actually not as bad as it looks. Tend to find the Koreans all wear masks but nobody else. Maybe a culture thing.

Couple more pictures up later to show it is not ALL bad ;-)

Oh, Pops, cooking is easy when you have a thousand catering staff. :-)
