  • From my canal walk yesterday.

We started off in sunshine with little cloud and as is usual in late autumn it didn't take long for the skies to look moody.

The sun helped in a way as I saw a flash of blue and realised the kingfisher had returned to this stretch (we saw him a few weeks ago here). Unfortunately this area is covered in overhanging trees with brambles etc as a backdrop. It doesn't help too well with focus due to the light not getting through.

Now if only I could get closer but I need to be sitting in a narrowboat.

The seagull needed a little help in bringing out the detail.

    E-5 - 50-200 + 1.4 converter - A.mode - iso 500 - ev 0.3 etc - both handheld

I'm just jealous that you see the kingfisher at such regular intervals! ok, it's a bit of a jumble but that flash of blue does stand out, and I think that the work on the seagull has been very successful.

I'm always jealous when I see a kinkfisher shot. I haven't even seen one yet. You did a good job of this one considering all the problems you had.
The full wingspan of the gull looks good.

Caz and Pops - thanks very much for the comments.

We had blue skies most of the time today and instead of catching up again with the kingfisher I half built a twin dustbin store and then spent the rest of the day supporting Anne Christmas shopping.

Subject to little snow and hard frosts I'm sure I shall catch up with him again, perhaps even with a lady friend.

Well spotted and a nice shot of the Kingfisher. But I have to say I love that beautiful shot of the BHG all wrapped up in his Winter plumage and flying majestically against that smooth, dark sky.

            Thanks Pol.

Thew BHG managed to get a ray of sun on its body as I took it - most fortunate.
