  • Lucky Finds

Picked this afternoon and straight into a leek and mushroom pie. (No, not the red and white ones Bart!) It really shows why we used to call them Penny Buns.

Having survived to make 860+ posts you must be picking the right ones, but what's the little gilled mushroom abive the right hand agaric?

      Re: Lucky Finds

The four small ones across the bottom are all the same, I don't know the common English name, pleurotus eryngii or argouane. The one you queried had dried out a bit. The others are all cep, or bolet jaune, what as kids we called penny buns.
      The pie was delicious!

Cheers Roger, that would explain it, Where were the fungi collected, according to Roger Phillips book, they haven't been found in the UK yet; that may of course be out of date by now if you found them here

I was wondering about the Boletes, the stalks on the Ceps round our way always seem fatter than these. We must go out again next weekend and try and find some (along with some Blewitts witha bit of luck).

          Hope the pie was good
