A busy time with friends from Australia produced a good day to visit the estate of the Duke of Bedford - Woburn Abbey. So pleased to have visited with the rutting season in full swing.
The house was opened to the general public including part of the private accommodation - so rich in art etc - a truly great experience.
Unfortunately, cameras are forbidden in the house but not in the many acres of grounds which surround the abbey. (An excuse for a few deer pix.)
Deer Group

Deer near water. Note the stag lying on the bank close to the water. He seemed most unwell and the deer close by sensed I think he was in trouble and came visiting.

Stag in Pain note the large puncture hole in the lower part of its body (belly) just behind the hoof of the front leg - possibly gored in a rut.

Stag courtship Chanel No. 5? These I believe are Pere David's deer introduced some years back to the Abbey.

Sleepy head

Red Deer Stag obliging me by staying stationary whilst he had his pic taken.

All pix above Olympus E-5 + 70-300 lens - various settings most in A. mode
Woburn Abbey framed using a Canon G11.
