  • Three Roses

Photo of roses taken with my (new) Nikon D80. Shot from underneath, the flowers were superimposed against a fairly bland sky. Using Photoshop I isolated the roses and then pasted them onto a sky background taken previously. A 'hard light' blend gave the most dramatic effect and integrated the top layer into the background. Finally added frame and text.
I will be really interested in anyones reaction to this photo as I intend entering it into an open (anything goes) competition at our local photo club.

    Re: Three Roses

    Hello Trevor,

This is a very nice photo. The colors are very nice and I like that the background is only the sky. But why the left and right rose are so squeezed in the frame? I think with a slight little more free room left and right the photo would look perfect.

    Regards

Really nice editing job with a good choice of sky. Gives some glowing transparancy to the petals. I feel the title justifies the tight crop.

        Hi,
A great image, well photographed and edited, you have done a great job, the sky, roses and lighting look as if it is "as taken" Well worth entering in the comp. And the very best of luck.

A really nice image, I like it a lot. It would probably look good processed as a "water-colour" in PS or something similar.

Not sure about the grey frame though, the edges don't seem to be uniform - this may be deliberate of course? I'm possibly not seeing an effect that you were trying to convey? (Sorry - I know this isn't on the critique board but I thought I'd mention it )

Thanks for all the feedback - really appreciate another 'eye'. The frame - I am not happy with it. I downloaded a script file from www.rogercavanagh.com to use in photoshop. The default colours of the frame were a bit drastic for me so I edited them and tried to dull them down a bit. However - because this is a script file it works a bit different from photoshop actions and all I could end up with is the gray. Will probably do my own frames in future.

PS - the web site above is really useful if you are into Photoshop - lots of hints
