  • Don't worry it's not poisonous...

While walking along the Thames at Aston a week ago my brother in law spotted a grass snake slithering through the grass.
He was quick enough to catch it so with the E-5 handy I rolled off a few shots.

Thanks for taking a look, comments welcomed
    Regards Huw

Nice ones. I like seeing the detail on the head, especially on the second shot.

Our neighbour has a very large garden mainly laid to lawn, which they don't cut as often as they should. They sometimes get grass snakes. The snake(s) sometimes curl up under pots in and around their untidy, rarely used greenhouse too. I usually know when she's spotted one because she screams.

Thanks Pol, these are pretty tight crops as I should have really swapped lenses (but didn't think I would have the time) or got closer. This is the first one I have photographed

Your neighbour's garden sounds a bit like ours, except I do try to keep the grass cut with reasonable regularity, perhaps I should go hunting for snakes

Nice capture Huw, the last time I saw a grass snake or adder was over ten years ago, and I go round my local country park everyday.
        Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

Nobody's garden could be quite like their chaotic mess; that would be impossible! The house is for sale atm so she's had the garden tidied up, lawn relaid and reseeded etc so maybe the snakes have cleared off, hopefully not in our direction!

She doesn't often see them but when she did they were almost always curled under an upturned plant pot or under old logs, branches etc under the conifers along the bottom fence or alongisde a huge conifer hedge they had near the greenhouse. I suspect they were breeding around there.

I make sure my husband keeps a close eye on ours. I love seeing wildlife coming and going in the garden but I'd be less than thrilled to have snakes slithering about.

I especially like the second photo!

Good detail. I have never seen one, but would like too!

The head on the 2nd is lovely and sharp.
Can't recall ever seeing one since I was in short trousers and like OlyPaul
I'm round our country park almost every day.
