  • A day in the country

As we were met with a cloudy, windy day when we left home yesterday we decided to take the car for a run (boost the battery) and ended out in the local countryside.

There were a few butterflies about , however due to the wind we left these for later in the week, especially as the weather forecast looks more hopeful in improving shooting small animals.

Having mentioned the wind we found it helpful in taking bugs etc which settled low in the grasses.

Cow Parsley (Not a bug )

    Flesh Fly (cleaning itself)

    Nymph (Cricket)

    Moth (unknown) with Cuckoo Spit

You two seem to have another good day. Not only for you two but also to the car battery.

I like the #2 to #4 as these three photos take full advantages of the shallow DoF. The subjects stand out clearly and nicely against the background. Amazing that at f8 and iso 400, no camera shake. I assume it was hand held.

I especially like the last one with the Moth and the Cuckoo Spit.

I usually hate cuckoo spit but it works very will in your picci for the reasons Yoshi has already said - dof and background with the subject standing out well.

As I had no idea what kind of insect it was, although the bubble can be observed everywhere, I looked into it. Here it is.
Now I can say with confidence that I just agree with Pol.

If some of you happen to love this insect, here are many of them. The above one is just one pic of these. Some countries even use this insect for their postage stamps!

I like macro photos of flowers but I do not think I would be pleased to take a macro pic of insects such as the above. Flowers are for artists and insects are for scholars.
