  • The story of the lost Moorhen chicks

Three lost moorhen chicks perched on a ladder.

Parent 1 comes to the rescue!

    Along with baby 4...

Parent 2 arrives and all are back together - sort of (one is still perched on the ladder and NO.4 is just entering the frame stage right!)

Aaaaaah, poor little things. It's always nice when mum and dad come to find you when yer a littl'un. But they did as they were taught and waited together until mum and dad came to get them.

    Nice little story.

I'm sorry about the poor technical quality of these shots as I was using a camera a) I was not familiar with and b) I didn't have enough telephoto reach!

Moorhens are surprisingly loud when they need to be - and there was a lot of 'honking' - for want of a better word going on until they all found each other again.

It's also strange that they, and coots (which I believe are related), have huge feet that aren't webbed for paddling.
