At work, this type of "shot" was easy, we had all the photogate triggers etc., and simply worked out the delays. Down in the garage, it's all a bit more down to judgement and luck

I'm fast running out of them. It's all the fault of "Ash", he started with burning bulbs and I just kept playing.

Sorry my fault I have not done anymore shots because I have no more bulbs, my understanding is that they are gradually going out of production, can anyone confirm this?
There are plenty in b&q but Im not sure how much stock there actually is.
Have fun while you can as they may become rare and expensive

That's correct, tungstan bulbs are being phased out, a lot of shops no longer have any. My local B&Q were selling them off very cheap a few months ago so I bought a pile. Some of the new energy saving bulbs won't fit in my ceiling and wall lights that take a candle bulb so I bought a load of these as well while they were being sold off cheap. Should have enough for several years now, unless I take up shooting

We use a dimmer switch in our living room, so tungsten lamps are vital for this to continue working. Are there any energy saving lights that can be dimmed?

Yes you can - we have a couple of them in the living room at the moment. I don't really feel they dim as smoothly as the old bulbs but they're ok.

I forgot what they're called and where David got them but I'll ask and post again later.

I don't know about dimmable energy saving bulbs, but I spotted this article today. Some scientists claim that the bulbs emit dangerous chemicals when switched on, this is in addition to them containing mercury which is highly poisonous.

Not recommended for shooting at to make a nice photo in my opinion

                      Regards,

                      Geoff.

Got the packaging here for one of the bulbs.

It's a "Sylvania Mini-lynx Dimmable" and it says it's an 80% energy saver. He tells me he got it from Amazon. Those are the ones we have in the living room and they work with a standard dimmer only.

There's another one called "Megaman dimmerable" but we haven't used that one yet. (He's collects bulbs like he collects camera gear.)

Apparently there are 2 types. One works with a dimmer switch and the other works with an ordinary switch.

The one that works with an ordinary switch dims when you flick the switch on and off. It goes down with each flick.

You learn every day! Just done a search and there are lots of options, from bulbs that look like traditional tungsten types but incorporate halogen innards (about 30% more efficient than tungsten and very compatible) to fluorescent lights that can be dimmed. So that's a relief!

Standard bulbs are still available from

Daylight bulbs are nice for photos. We have those in the hallways and I also have them in anglepoise lamps. I'll see if I can find the link for the daylighs we have. They were selling them at a good price recently and they also had a good range of wattage equivalents.

                            Daylight bulbs are my favourites.

And here's the link for the place for the daylight bulbs. Bayonet fitting and screw fitting bulbs available.

They're superb in the hallway, stairs and landing. Just like genuine daylight. I love them.

It can be quite useful being married to a gadget man who just has to try out all these things and stuff loads of samples away on his shelves.
