  • Grey Heron in breeding plumage

The tide was coming in and this heron was feeding on worms before the mud banks became flooded.

      Thank you Ian

These shots were taken at the northern edge of the old oysterbeds, North Hayling. The path here is in a low cutting with the oysterbeds on the other side. You can use the bushes on the embankment to avoid your body breaking the skyline hence you can approach quite closely without alarming the bird.

Hi Peter. 3/4/and 5 do it for me. The mud pile behind the head and beak in pic 1 ruins it for me and pic 2 I find it hard looking at the Heron with the background similar colour but they are smashing pictures all the same!

Thank you ekkl for viewing and your comments. I take your points and agree a different background would have been ideal. The only trouble was that there was nothing but mud and sea.
