  • I don't share my.....

    .....daughter's love of cats.

However, whilst walking down the towpath I spotted two who live on a narrowboat. Here is one of them which I think turned out quite well.

Do you have a pic of a cat you would like to add to the thread please?

Beautiful shot - spot on focus on the eye, and like the whiskers too.

I was always allergic to most kind of animals, until a friend moved in for a short period and the dog had to come too so when my brother's cat had 2 pregnancies in short succession I seem to have ended up with two cats, who are now about 18 months old.

This was taken a couple of weeks ago when I'd washed the other radiator bed, and they decided to share:

      Re: I don't share my.....

I prefer dogs to cats, never actually owned a cat, nor have I ever been too keen on them. However, one of our neighbours always kept 3-4 cats. They were always from a rescue centre and she had a knack for choosing such nice ones. They always spent most of the day in and around our garden. None of hers ever bothered the birds apart from one, which she gradually trained to leave them alone. I didn't think that was possible but she managed to do it and 'Hugo' (aka as Augustus, Gus, Gussy or Gussy-da-Pussy) became one of the nicest, most gentle puddy-tats ever!

Our neighbour moved last year and took all her cats with her. I miss 'Gussy' - she was like a permanent fixture looking hopefully towards the back door.

Here she is watching and waiting as she could smell chicken cooking - hoping for a few scraps.

Aaaaaaaaah - that youtube clip is amazing!

They're all fantastic but I was totally gobsmacked by the leopard's behaviour!

            Thanks for the link.

I think some cats are nicer than others. But that can be said of dogs too. The great thing about cats is that they are much less dependent on their owners. Unfortunately, although I'd love to have a dog, I wouldn't have the time to go devote to it that it would need. But cats are another matter and we had two until just a few weeks ago when one (of the ice cream pot fame) died (she was almost 17). They have been left at home for periods of up to 3 weeks with just the neighbour replenishing their food and water regularly. We always get a great greeting and lots of attention when we come home

                Re: I don't share my.....

I rather hesitated whether to post this or not but this is one of the two rare pics of cats. (Normally it's not my subject, sorry. )

It was taken two weeks ago when i walked around a tiny town where I often visit with a compact camera after long lazy life photographcally.

A fat cat happened to run down the narrow street quickly in front of me while walking and I just pushed the release button instantly without framing --- but not quick enough.
(Btw it's me on the glass. Hello once again to you all. )

Hi Yoshi - my goodness, that is a really big cat! I like its stripes. I rather like the photo actually. It has an attractive feel of impulse without any preparation or framing. Another thing, we all have a mental picture of Japan being very clean and tidy, with everything looking shiny and new or well maintained if it's old and traditional. Your picture shows that this is not always the case (almost anywhere in the world).

                    Hi Ian,
Yes, of course, it's a typical illusion and a bit surprised to hear that.

Many of us have a good image about UK for preserving old things in good condition as antiques (?) be it buildings or other things such as steam locomotive and many others. And of course newer things too. It is imho well evidenced by many pics posted here.

                      Hi Ian -

I walked to HH today with a purpose in mind for a shot midway. The sun really didn't show until it was too late - I had an appointment with a fair haired maiden for lunch. Sinatra's is such a great Italian and coupled with the lunch special it made a pleasant day.
I only saw three dog walkers on the 5 mile hike, a couple of runners and several birds.
We miss taking our dog for walkies - unfortunately she has long gone, sniff.

                      Hi Yoshi -

Thanks for the pic, what a large cat - it must be well fed. Nice to see your image in it too. I note it has been raining in some parts of Japan today, however it seems to be improving for tomorrow/today.

                      Regards. Barr1e

I am not joking, but a few years ago I did see a man with a cat on a harness and lead in Hemel town centre. The cat looked a bit skittish it has to be said!
