  • That sort of weather

Thick fog all day and lots of ice around but I still managed to get out for an hour. When I saw the potential for closeup ice droplets I was furious with myself for not having taken a tripod along.

Been there a few times meself Pops. Thing is if you take it you never use it. On the other hand if you don't take it, you can't use it

At least you had your camera with you. All I had this morning was a frozen dog. Love the rich colour in your image.

I have really tried and tried Pol but I can't make any meaning of the last 3 words.

Sod's law this morning...all the ice and frost has gone

LOL .. it's a Tyneside/Wearside expression, frequently used by 'Terry and Bob' in "The Likely lads" too.

Rather than just saying 'ok mate' (or similar) they'd say that's ok though but, man lad. Geordies can also use 'man' to a woman ......... though y'see, man lad. The 'man' and 'lad' is pronounced with a very short 'a' in those situations.

I've lived 'Doon Sooth' since 1966, been married to 'cut-glass' Southern softie since 1973 but will always be a Northumbrian/Geordie lass deep in my soul.

                Thanks for the explanation Pol.
Mentally imagining Jimmy Nail saying it ......... it now makes sense

You should have seen the other 50 or so

Seriously though, out of around 50 similar shots only 4 made it and I'm sure there would have been lots more with the tripod. It was freezing at the time which accounted for most of the blurred shots.

I sometimes carry a decent sized, folded polythene bag in my pocket and, depending on the conditions and location, I put the bag down and sit or lie on it - then use my body/limbs to support the camera. That's how I was able to get the leaflet (Blowing in the Wind salon) with a slow shutter speed and small aperture (f/32, 1/20 iirc).

I think there is a law for that!

I take my mono pod where ever I go now, I keep the old tripod in the back of the car all the time as well. (Its just a cheapish one)

                          Hi Pops

What a lovely Christmassy image. I wish I had taken it. I also was trying to get frosty images in the garden yesterday, but there was nothing as colourful as your.
