  • 77 Heron pix

I took 77 pix of this juvenile heron over a period of a couple of hours today. He/she like me didn't catch much else. It was a grey day with little around.

There was boat movement after the canal lost its icy coating - some three inches in places. The boaters were complaining about the water level being OK on the higher ground but very low either side of the hill at Tring. In fact one got stuck but with help from passers by the lady was cleared from the muddy bottom.

You can see from the pic how low the level is the heron is wading in mud.

I came face to face with a very good looking red fox, beautiful bushy tail. I felt it was one of those if only days again - it ran before I could focus on it. I have never been so close to one in the wild before, it was say, two metres distance between camera and fox.

This is a fair reward though. I hope you like it.

Hi Barrie, I love the colours in the heron which i think is let down by the background folliage, maybe a tighter crop on the bird would make a more pleasing image imo!
    cheers

I know what you mean, Ash - but on the other hand the overall setting looks very natural and I like the fact that the heron is up to its knees? in the water.

        Re: 77 Heron pix

Interesting comments - thanks very much.

I had thought of posting the original image but was keeping it for a future challenge (arty I thought) and so cropped it square, thus bringing the bird to the fore.

Here is the other one in the round so as to speak.

            Thanks so much.

I met a couple of new ones today, one of which had very skinny legs but carrying a full size frame. Much too blustery to get a decent pic of them.
            The day wasn't lost though.
