  • Icy Beauty

    Hi

Ventured out into the garden today with the camera to make the most of a heavy frost last night. It was worth numb fingers and toes to bring you this (even if it is a bit cliched ):

The oof background on the right is a bit annoying, but you can't have it all .

    Thanks for looking.

Lovely, an easy fix would be to crop out the right to remove the lighter background or you could always spend some time on it and clone over the unwanted background.
What is that the ice is on? And what cam/lens have you used?
    cheers
    Ash.

      Thanks Ash

The ice had formed on the edge of a dead leaf.

I might have a go at cropping and/or cloning out the annoying bit at some point - the image was quite a heavy crop of the original anyway.

      Some 'technicals' for you:

The image was taken on a Canon 7D with Canon f2.8L Macro IS USM lens at 1/250 sec f13 (at closest focusing distance), pattern metering, 125 ISO. Also used was a Canon 580EXII flash with Lightsphere diffuser.

Post processing (apart from a pretty hefty crop of the original) was rotate 90 degrees CCW and some unsharp mask.

      Cheers

      Thea

Not seen any ice formations like that before, so very interesting. The leaf looks like the hide of some mysterious beast
