  • A Smile For Christmas

Somebody with a sense of humour collected some flotsam and jetsam from the beach to make an unusual Xmas tree.

Yes Roger, it made me smile. Well spotted.

I once saw a tree with dozens of trainers hanging on it, but we were passing in the car and couldn't stop. Shoe Tree?

Of course it's sad that all this stuff is on the beaches in the first place

Yes it is isn't Ian. It is one of my pet hobby horses and I have ruffled plenty of Breton feathers by pointing out that the worst polluters are the professional fishermen. Nobody else would throw fluorescent light tubes overboard, 50 gallon oil drums, or large pieces of damaged trawls. Fishing is a traditional earner around here and still a major source of income, so you would thank that they would look after the sea.

        Rant over,

          Hi Roger,
This image is a stark reminder of our lack of consideration for the environment and the wildlife. I am dismayed to learn that the fishermen are one of the worst offenders when their livelyhood is so dependant on environmental issues.
We have volunteer groups that clean up our beaches on a regular basis and thankfully keep much of this sort of problem to a minimum. To see what they have loaded on their trollies during a clean-up is quite an eye opener.
          Kind regards
