  • Through the window and the door

Not been out for a week, and we are still snowed up, but now it is icey.

Here is what it looked like last Wednesday morning.

The first thing I heard at 7am was what sounded like someone clearing our drive! From the porch I could see that it was a snowplough that had become stuck in the snow outside our house and the men were digging the snow from the blades. Here's a pic, but the men had just got inside their cab.

We had about 24" of snow. I don't really know why the some images are so blue. They were taken at different times of the day and I haven't altered the white balance (which I possibly should have done). I just wanted to show you the images.

    Here is the bird bath.

Oh boy - we definitely got off lightly here in Northamptonshire. Although forecast throughout the week, the forecasters kept saying "tomorrow...." which luckily never came.

I like the second and last shots - the second because of the eerie stillness of it, and the last just because it really shows how much snow you had.

Crikey! You really had some spectacular snow there! The birdbath looks amazing!

Did the snowplough actually manage to clear a way through or are you still snowed in and without any post or other deliveries?

Re: Through the window and the door

Cars are passing down the road now in single file. Yesterday and Saturday our neighbour across the road backed his car into the road and just couldn't turn it and dug himself out and back into the garage again!

I wrote our car off a week last Saturday on the ice about 200 yds from our house, picked up a hire car last Monday and it hasn't moved since then! No post since last Tuesday.

Beautiful little chaffinches on the trees at the bottom of the garden. Minus 10 outside at the moment, but the sun is out. It's still on all the roofs, but has fallen from the trees. Thank goodnes for freezers and milk in a carton and a new boiler.

We have walked to friends for a couple of meals and went to our sons family party by taxi on Saturday, but our road is trecherous and the snow is thick on the pavements - no-one being able to walk on them. Roads into town are clear, but Council and Library car parks have not been cleared. I understand the supermarkets' car parks are passable.

Just looking forward to some warmer weather now.

          What a nightmare for you!!

We were lucky enough to have a bit of a thaw over the w/e though there's still freezing fog and very dangerous roads and footpaths everywhere. I hate snow and ice with a passion! There's no way I can manage to walk in it, especially as we're on a fairly steep, winding hill.

I never dream of a white Christmas. A white christmas is my worst nightmare!

Fingers crossed it'll improve for you very soon!

            Audrey -

            How could you!

Fancy not sharing some of that snow with us.

We had a covering of an inch or so.

            I'm only joking.

I'm sorry about your car and the conditions you have had to endure. I believe some parts of Scotland had heavy falls too. I hope the weather improves before the holiday so Christmas is enjoyed by all.

            Thanks for the pictures.

            Regards. Barr1e
