  • Dawn at the Aggregates wharf

Although the light was poor and I had my Sigma 50-500 attached to the E5, I thought I would give this scene a go. Aperture priority, ISO 800. The air temperature was 0c and mist was above the water.

The barge was loaded before dawn by the mechanical shovel. The seamen are preparing the barge to be moved out by the tug.

The tug being readied before moving alongside the barge.

I moved up the Hermiage stream to seek wildlife and when I came back, the tug and barge had moved off from the wharf and was heading back into Langstone Harbour.

The crew were tidying up the decks of the tug and barge as it entered Langstone Harbour.

I find this sort of thing quite interesting, not necessarily from a subject point of view, or even an individual photographic one. The fact is though that individually they don't stand up as stunning photos or anything of great merit, though I particularly like the last one (maybe its the light) Its more to do with the fact that they are part of a sequence and tell a story. This is a valuable photographic technique which you have done well and are therefore to be congratulated

Thank you Stephen. Sorry I have been slow in responding to your reply but I have had a heavy workload which has meant photography etc had to be put on hold.
These images were shown to demonstrate how the camera performed in conditions that I would never have attempted before with my E3 and Sigma 50-500. This series is really about the camera and not the image. I do not like posting anything however without putting a few word to the images and always try and research my subject - that, I guess, is my style.
My approach to photography is that the camera is purely a tool to tell a story. The make and model is never an issue only that it is capable of carrying out the work I want it to. This series of tests was to inform me of the capabilities, which I have to say, excite me for future assignments. The E5 has opened doors that I thought were closed to me. Add to this the bonus of being able to use my existing lens'.
I shall continue to use the E3 in areas that I know it is strong in and it will be a useful backup to the E5.
          Kind regards
